Lumbar Spine Services
A lumbar laminectomy also relieves the pressure of a pinched nerve, but does so by removing a portion of the lamina, the bony rim around the spinal canal. A small incision is made in the lower back, while the skin and muscle are carefully separated to gain access to the spine. A microscope or endoscope may be inserted as well to provide visual examination during the procedure. This procedure is often used to treat spinal stenosis and disc degeneration.
